An iconic kelp prowler, the calico bass is often seen off the coast of Southern California.
Calicos are known for their distinctive checkboard patterns, and bubinga and shedua wood represent these markings well.

Hammered and welded bronze captures the different angles of the kelp’s leaves and the fishes’ outstretched fins capture both the motion of these fish as well as the flowing movement of their environment.

The squid are forged and welded out of steel, and the kelp is hammered and welded out of bronze. Each blade of kelp has been textured to achieve kelp’s natural corrugated texture.
