Like its breathing counterpart living in the wild, Octopus seems to unroll itself as it moves over a reef. The beautiful spots and swirls present in manzanita burl are similar to the mottled patterning of an octopus. In the upper portion of this manzanita burl, an octopus waited to be carved into existence. Left in its natural state, the remainder of the burl provides a perfect reef structure. From head, to tentacles, to suction cups, Octopus was hand-carved over many months.
