River’s Edge

River’s Edge is a series of large-scale sculptures created for the environmental habitat at the Santa Ana Zoo, inspired by the Amazon and its incredible diversity of life. Rather than a single focal piece, the collection is designed to be encountered throughout the habitat, with each sculpture based on an Amazonian species, including a large Arapaima fish and Matamata turtle, and integrated into the surrounding environment.

Each piece begins with observation, from how an animal moves to how it exists within its environment. The forms are then translated into metal, wood, or stone through forging, welding, and carving. For the zoo project, each sculpture was designed with placement, scale, durability, and the movement of visitors through the habitat in mind.
