The Greek word trophic refers to an animal’s position in the food chain. The sculpture, Trophic, shows a calico bass chasing three squid through kelp. Clearly higher on the food chain, this fish is made of carved shedua wood. Its head and fins are bronze that has been forged, hammered, and welded. The squid are forged and welded out of steel, and the kelp is hammered and welded out of bronze. Each blade of kelp has been hammered to achieve the corrugated texture that kelp has in nature.
