NAUTILUS

Living fossils, nautiluses are ancient, shelled relatives of squid. Within a nautilus shell is a series of sealed chambers filled with gas and seawater. The nautilus injects or removes the air in their shell to maintain neutral buoyancy, making them essentially weightless and able to float through the depths, suspended in water. The shells of Ancient Mariner, Nautilus, and Equilibrium are carved out of various wood species with patterns that evoke the nautilus’ natural shell. The bodies are forged and welded of bronze.
